The Giant African Land Snail is one of the largest terrestrial gastropods and are commonly kept as pets around the world. They have an average lifespan of 5-7 years. They are native to Africa but overtime it has been introduced to various different countries such as China and Fiji. They like to spend most of their time during the day burrowed beneath the ground and are more active during the night.
All About Barry & Gary
Our two African land snails, Barry and Gary, are now over 18 months old. Last year we allowed them to hatch a clutch of eggs and we were surprised to hatch over 50 snails. Amazingly we managed to find homes for all of these baby snails.
It was a great experience for our students to be part of this and some now even have pet snails of their own.
Burrowing in the soil.
